This is a great torch that has become “standard issue” for Team DG. The new model, this one comes with a push-button switch rather than the slider ones we had issues with.
At 1100 Lumens, which is 100 more than the old model it’s just about perfect for most local diving. Any brighter just tends to be wasted with back-scatter and the beam ends up looking light sabre.
The beam can be focused depending on the needs of the diver on each dive, I use spot mode for teaching, flood mode when i’m alone and something in between for scalloping.
Being honest, while the flood works ok for video, it does show a halo in camera. If you are looking for a video light check out the EOS Video Set.
With the addition of Lee’s Team DG 3d printed handle, you can easily stow the torch in your waistband when not in use. Soft Goodman handles are available too.
It uses a standard rechargeable cell, so if you want to have spares or ever need to replace it they are easy to source unlike many other specialist cells.
The standard dive torch that we’ve used for many years was always around the £300 – £500 mark, so it’s great to have such a good torch at this price.
